RV Essential Items
Out on the open road a lot of things can go wrong. A flat tire or a dead battery can ruin your entire trip if you’re not prepared.
Here’s a scenario, it’s 1:00 am on a Sunday morning and you’ve been driving for eight hours when suddenly your tire goes flat.
You try fixing the tire, your battery dies and you cut your hand badly on the sharp glass that was stuck in your tire.
Hopefully your luck is not this bad, but it's much wiser to prepare for such a scenario and be ready to react.
The “Be Prepared” motto of the Boy Scouts of America will help you get out of many sticky situations when it comes to your being on the road.
Here is a list of RV essential items that every camper should have on their road trips!
First Aid Kit
When creating your first aid kit just remember that you may be far away from any medical attention, so how well you can handle different situations will result in what you decide to put in your kit.
The mayo clinic offers a good list
of what your first aid kit should have in it.
Here are some extra’s that the mayo clinic doesn’t mention but we felt is a good idea for you to have:
- Travel / motion sickness medication ( need a prescription)
- Snake bite kit (Sawyer's Extractor)
- Sinus medications (Claritin for allergy season)
- Eye drops
Once you have a good first aid kit, you will need a good toolbox for help with temporary fixes.
This is a much better alternative than calling an expensive tow truck.
A well-stocked toolbox will take you a long way in getting back on the road safely.
Before you leave, make sure to sort through it to make sure that everything is there. Nothing is worse than to have your RV or trailer break down on the road, reach for the toolbox, and discover that you left the one tool you needed in the garage.
Here are a few good items to have in your toolbox:
- Duct tape(of course)
- Electrical tape
- Wrench set
- Small hammer
- Multipurpose knife or tool
- Socket set
- Jumper cables
- Aluminum hydraulic floor jack
- Wrench for hitch bolts
- Reflectors for Highway Safety, Reflector Vest, Flare
The final recommendation is to bring a few small and easily replaceable parts such as the ones below:
- Nylon Tow Cable
- Spare Gas in Can with spout, hose for transfer, 2.5 Gal.Minimum
- Spare Fuses
- Spare tire
- Extra fuses
- Spare Belts or Universal Belt
- Extra Pair of Windshield wipers
- Universal Hose Repair Kit
