Mother Nature hasn’t been very favorable to the ski resorts in the area this year. But thankfully, many of them have the capability of producing their own snow so that visitors can get out and enjoy a fun filled day of skiing, snowboarding, tubing, etc., all while enjoying the mild weather we’ve been experiencing. 1. Elm Creek Winter Recreation Area- Maple Grove, MN
Elm Creek is the #1 top rated ski resort in the state by visitors from all over the country. It’s a family friendly resort that offers alpine skiing and snowboarding for all skill levels, from beginner to advanced. The resort also features over 18km of Nordic trails for those interested in cross country skiing.
Also featured at the park is a lighted tubing hill, fun for the whole family! You can ski, snowboard and tube day or night. At the end of the day, guests are welcome to visit the chalet to enjoy hot drinks and snacks by the warm glow of the fireplace. Now doesn’t that sound inviting??
2. Lutsen Mountains- Lutsen, MN
Coming in second place is Lutsen Mountains Ski Resort located within the Sawtooth Mountain Range. It’s rated for its impeccable views and terrain that spans across over 1,000 acres of skiable land. There are four peaks to ski or snowboard from with over 90 runs at all skill levels. For the advanced group, the mountains feature a 900 ft vertical drop to give you the thrill of a lifetime. There are various lessons and programs for the kids to get them started at becoming novice skiers at any age.
Lutsen Mountains is the only ski resort that has a gondola. The resort is working on building one at each peak with a chalet at the top for guests to take advantage of the spectacular views of Lake Superior. Each chalet will feature bathrooms, shops, and a snack bar or restaurant to fulfill what necessities guests may have and to take advantage of the spectacular scenery. This ski resort is a favorite among scenic photographers.
3. Powder Ridge- Kimball, MN
The last on the list is Powder Ridge. The resort offers skiing, snowboarding, and tubing for visitors of all ages. With 100% snowmaking capabilities, there are 4 different parks available to choose from depending on skill level; The toughest featuring a 310 ft vertical drop.
Powder Ridge also features lessons for their guests, a lounge restaurant to chow down at after a long day of winter activity, and a rental shop that has all the skiing, snowboarding, and tubing supplies to meet your needs. Truly a family friendly ski resort all around.
