    Frustrated RVingIt is time to get away from your normal work week, get away from the stressful emails, your wonderful boss (horrible boss), and get away from the day to day grind. We often get caught up in our daily work that we forget what life is really about, family. We have compiled a list of some of the countries best places to visit in America. Some of these are my personal favorites. Find a place that is close to you take a a few days off, or if you can’t do that take a trip over the weekend. Give us a call at Kroubetz and we would be happy to recommend some more of our favorite spots.

    Florida, Keys West (Florida):

    About: Key west is a city in Monroe county,, Florida about 130 miles southwest of Miami. Key West is a subtropical paradise with a ton of things to do. Some good ideas for the family include: Tortugas National Park, Deep sea fishing, and the theater of the sea. Interesting facts:
    • There are over 800 keys in total, stretching over 180 miles (290 km).
    • Ernest Hemingway wrote many of his best-known works in his studio apartment in Key West. Among them were "Death in the Afternoon," "For Whom the Bell Tolls," "The Green Hills of Africa," "The Fifth Column," and "The Snows of Kilimanjaro".
    • Since the 1980’s, approximately 23 artificial reefs have been put in place in the Florida Keys. Most are sunken ships.

    Finger Lakes (New York):

    About New York's Finger Lakes region provides a great road trip experience for RVers. The lakes are long and slender (thus the finger reference), giving the region it's name. Lakes include: Conesus, Hemlock, Canadice, Honeoye, Canandaigua, Keuka, Seneca, Cayuga, Owasco, Skaneateles and Otisco. During this road trip, visitors can enjoy a wide variety of activities and destinations to suit all interests. Interesting facts:
    • The lakes were created by ice age glaciers.
    • There are more than 110 wineries in the region.
    • The deep lakes retain warmth in the winter and winter cold during the spring.

    Minnesota: Mall of America:

    About Located on the outskirts of St. Paul in the suburb of Bloomington, the Mall of America is the largest mall in the United States. In addition to the hundreds of shops and dozens of restaurants, the facility includes theaters, hotel accommodation, and other amusements. Interesting facts:
    • You could fit seven Yankee Stadiums inside the Mall of America.
    • It cost more than $650 million to build the Mall of America in 1992.
    • The Mall of America used to have a high school in it! Talk about an All-American education.

    Texas: The Alamo

    About: On February 23, 1836, the arrival of General Antonio López de Santa Anna's army outside San Antonio caught the men inside of the Alamo by surprise. Undaunted, the Texans and Tejanos prepared to defend the Alamo together. The defenders held out for 13 days against Santa Anna's army.. It is an excellent visiting place for the people who are fond of knowing history. Interesting facts:
    • Some 600 Mexican soldiers died in the battle, compared to roughly 200 rebellious Texans.
    • It was formerly constructed by the Spanish Empire in the 18th century for the education of local Native Americans after their conversion to Christianity.
    • Davy Crockett, a famous frontiersman and former US Congressman, was the highest-profile defender to fall at the Alamo.

    Colorado: Pikes Peak

    About Pikes Peak is known as one of America’s most famous mountain.The road to the top is a 19-mile scenic journey above the clouds. You start at an elevation of 7,400 feet, and end up at a summit of 14,115 feet. Along the way, you’ll encounter some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world as you wind your way through an alpine wonderland of scenic beauty. Interesting Facts
    • Each year, more than 5.9 million people come to this area of Colorado
    • Although Pikes Peak Colorado is indeed a massive mountain, it actually ranks 31 in the state, out of a total of 54.
    • You must make specific preparations to your vehicle if you choose to drive to the top, or summit.
